UFC 116 Breakdowns and Predictions
The main event in UFC 116 features two heavyweight giants on a collision course for the title of undisputed heavyweight champion. Champion Brock Lesnar and undefeated interim champion Shane Carwin are scheduled to meet in a fight that was supposed to happen sometime in 2009. The fight was delayed, then postponed until 116 due to Lesnar’s serious health issues. MMA fans on the edge of their seats throughout the entire fight, as both opponents are stand-up brawlers. Another fight that may be interesting is the rematch between Stephan Bonner and “The Polish Experiment”.
O.K. let’s face it. Brock Lesnar is the closest thing man has come to discovering Bigfoot. I mean, that man is a freak of nature. It’s a good thing that UFC added the weight classes, because if they didn’t, Lesnar would be a black hole swallowing up the competition. He has dominated opponents in all of his fights, even the one he lost to Frank Mir.
Shane Carwin seems to be a true No. 1 contender. He is 12-0 and all 12 of his wins have come by K.O…in the first round. Carwin should not be counted out, especially since Lesnar has not fought in almost a year and is coming off of an injury. If Lesnar had not suffered an illness, I feel this prediction would be easier to make, however I’m going for the upset in this one.
Prediction: Carwin by TKO
For the Prediction Machine’s (UFC undisputed 2010 on Xbox360) stats, I auto-played Lesnar vs Carwin five times regardless of outcome for 5 rounds on expert with the venue and referee on random. The results were:
1.) Carwin by K.O. 1:37 of the 2nd round
2.) Lesnar by K.O. 4:28 of the 2nd round
3.) Lesnar by TKO 3:03 of the 2nd round
4.) Carwin by TKO 3:52 of the 1st round
5.) Lesnar by K.O. 1:48 of the 2nd round
In the auto-play, Carwin was cut open first 4 out of 5 times and Lesnar got the first takedown 3 of 5 times.
The Prediction Machine: Lesnar by K.O.; 2nd round
Stephan Bonner vs. “The Polish Experiment” (I don’t like typing his name due to spell check) in 116 is a rematch of their fight earlier this year. Many MMA fans feel that this match could be a vindication of sorts for Bonner, due to the Polish Experiment’s controversial win by ref/ doctor stoppage in February. Based on the last fight, the Polish Experiment seemed to have won the first round slugfest, but Bonner displayed his superior endurance in the second. I doubt the Polish Experiment’s endurance has improved much since their last meeting, so if Bonner can avoid getting (T)K.O.’d…
Prediction: Bonner by decision
