The Prediction Machine?
Needless to say, some of us were shocked by the outcome of the Liddell/ Franklin fight. Before the fight started, I saw 3 out of 5 sports betting sites favoring Liddell, with a pretty nice spread. I stated in my previous UFC 115 Breakdowns and Predictions blog that I was truly torn in deciding who would be the victor between the two legends, then enters Xbox 360 and THQ.
For a recap of last week’s blog, Undisputed 2010 consistently choose Franklin to be the winner over Liddell by K.O., in the first round. The game even predicted that Liddell would be the first to get cut open. After viewing the fight, I did the only thing an MMA nerd would do in this situation…I auto fought Anderson Silva against the UFC.
Let me explain my opinion of Anderson Silva. First, I believe he is half-god, like Achilles, but without the cool weapons. An intelligent and talented fighter who is very confident of his skills, I honestly don’t think anyone short of Brock Lesnar can beat him. Sun Tzu, the great Chinese war strategist once said “What the ancients called a clever fighter is one who not only wins, but excels in winning with ease.” Anderson Silva looks like he has won with ease in every single UFC fight. Maybe Dan Henderson was his biggest threat, but even he got submitted.
My goal was to try and find a fighter who THQ programmers think might be able to beat Silva. I placed Silva against almost everyone in the middle weight class just once…and Silva still dominated. Luckily, Anderson Silva can also be played in the Light Heavy weight class, so I tried that…and it looks like he is human after all. I’ll admit, I stopped after I found a winner (the fiancé forced me to have a life).
I was surprised at who beat him; Jon “Bones” Jones knocked him out in the middle of the second round. If you think about it though, it kind of makes sense, as Jones not only has the weight advantage but is very quick and extremely versatile in the game. In real life though, I think the possibility of the two meeting right now is rare, but knows about the future? THQ says it might be interesting!
I’ve never been one to believe that a machine can predict the future. If the universe was perfect, I could accept that a machine would know what was coming next, but this is a random land we live in (like who would have thought to eat eggs? EXACTLY!) I don’t trust Undisputed 2010’s fight predictions just yet, that’s why I’m choosing to include their predictions along with my predictions for every UFC Breakdown and Predictions series…then we’ll see what’s up.
