The movie Grown Ups shits on the legacy of Chris Farley
In my opinion the mid 1990’s was the best time for Saturday Night Live. The cast featured great comedians like Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Rob Schenider, David Spade and my all time favorite, the late Chris Farley. When I heard last year that most of the people from that great cast were reuniting for a movie, I was fucking stoked. The news was even better when I found out the movie was co-written by Adam Sandler and Fred Wolf, who worked as a writer on SNL during that great mid 90’s era.
My excitement for Grown Ups was shattered when I saw the previews a few weeks ago. The writers and producers decided to cast Kevin James (who I think is a great comedian by the way) as a funny fat guy who gets laughs with his over the top physical comedy. Does that remind you of anyone from the list from above?
How dare these fucking producers shit on the legacy of Chris Farley like that? I get that when Sandler and Wolf were writing the film there were probably a lot of scenes where a funny fat dude would fit in perfectly. But when your friend dies, especially at such a young age and in the tragic way Farley died, you write a different fucking joke. You don’t just find someone with a similar style. I think it’s fucking disgusting that these cocksuckers just plugged Kevin James into this roll. We all see what you are doing, and it makes me fucking sick.
Chris Farley was the one guy in that cast who was always willing to put everything on the line to make people laugh. We will never know if he would have sold out to this fucking corporate greed like Sander did or if he would have ended up on some shitty sitcom like Spade did. But I do know that when he was at his prime, he was the best member of that cast. Every time I watch Tommy Boy (which is about six times a year), I get a little sad when the movie ends.
I for one will never see this fucking movie. Fred Wolf is a phenomenal comedy writer and this is in no way a slam against Kevin James. I think this whole move is a slap in the face to all of us who loved Chris Farley and still miss him today.
