We beat ourselves worse than any opponent ever could

Way to go children. MMA’s continuing battle against ignorance and prejudice just got the shit kicked out of it by a half dozen guys just like Mayhem Miller. On national broadcast television Strikeforce managed to put together a fantastic card that over two and a half hours demonstrated the true fighting spirit of a Gilbert Melendez and the technical proficiency of Jake shields only to watch it fall apart in the last ten minutes when a brawl broke out between “professional” fighters in the center of the cage.

I guess that we get what we deserve though. I think Tank Abbott was the first undisciplined thug I remember stepping off of the bar stool and into the ring, but now it seems like the fighters in the major “professional” organizations look more like the guys I knew in prison than athletes of any kind. So you proved John McCain right. So you made Floyd Mayweather look prophetic. So you once again casted a shadow of illegitimacy on a sport that clings ever so faintly to mainstream acceptance.

Maybe that is what it is all about. Maybe Dana Whites constant barrage of fuck you, fuck that, fuck, fuck, fuck is what this sport is all about. Maybe the drunken deranged ranting of Junie Carter is what we all tune in for. As long as this goes on though, we might as well give up hope for the boxing size paydays for MMA fighters.

I guess we might as well quit setting up matches because we beat ourselves worse than any opponent ever could.
