Do you like a good conspiracy theory? Here’s one about UFC 112

I’ve got a theory about the three main card fights in UFC 112. It’s not pretty, in fact it almost made puke because it stank so much.

I’ve got some questions, like why didn’t Renzo Gracie, a master of Brazilian ju-jitsu, and teacher of champions, attempt to take Matt Hughes to the ground? It’s like he purposely put himself into Hughes’s game. Even Joe Rogan pointed out ten seconds into the first round that Hughes’s stance was not his normal south paw stance (which is his shooting stance), and instead, went orthodox, as if he was prepared to stand up the entire time. What about Hughes’s helping Renzo up with two minutes left in the last round? Like their buddies, right? In a UFC pay-per-view co-main event half way around the world. I don’t think so.

What about the BJ Penn/ Franky Edgar fight? The whole thing was stand up too. When Penn’s corner told him to take it to the ground in round 4, why was the plan not followed? I understand Penn had a sinus infection, but it could have saved him the belt had the ju-jitsu world champion challenged the purple belt in a ground match.

And the Anderson Silva/ Damien Maia fight, with the promise of a GSP/ Silva if Silva won? This is where I lost it. Silva was acting so abnormal, that it should’ve caused concern. He was so flamboyant, as if almost to be “too much.” He could have easily finished Maia at any time…even when he was running in the 4th and 5th. And why didn’t GSP enter the ring at the end, for one of his famous after-the-fight evaluations and a talk up of his now-upcoming fight with Silva?

Here’s the theory: Renzo, Penn, and Silva were “supposed” to lose. They all should have been favored to win. Renzo’s legs were gone by Round 3, with a TKO as the result (again, this could have been avoided on the ground) and the judges made the decision with the Penn/ Edgar fight. Penn has had the belt before, and he’ll get it back again. The Silva/ Maia fight was the eye opener. Silva had too much pride to give up his title, so he forced the judges to make him the winner, by clowning and dominating Maia most of the time, and running in the end.

Am I wrong? I hope so, but here’s something to look out for…If the GSP/ Silva fight doesn’t happen within the next 24 months, I might be on to something…
