I need some advice from our Heavy Hands fans and motorcycle enthusiasts

I need some advice from our Heavy Hands family. I’m shopping for a new motorcycle and I can’t seem to trust those salespeople because all they are trying to do is move bikes off the showroom floor. I understand that’s their job, and respect that, but I have yet to find a sales rep that will give me honest advice and not just try to push the most expensive bike or try to get me to buy before I’m ready. I figure a lot of you are bike owners and have good knowledge on the subject.

So far, I have looked at the Honda Shadow 750, the Yamaha V Star 1100 Custom, the Yamaha V Star 950 and the Suzuki Boulevard 1400. I would love to hear your suggestions on other bikes I should look at.

Here’s my bike buying needs and limitations:

  • I’m a big dude (my politically correct way of saying I’m a fat bastard) so I need a bigger bike to support my fat ass
  • $11,000 is my limit
  • I’m willing to go with something used if the bike is solid and not more than a few years old
  • The bike will be used mostly for local rides, but I want something that can hold up on a long road trip (preferably to Cancun with a hot blonde on the back)
  • I am planning to start my own motorcycle gang, so I need a bike that makes me look like a badass

A disclaimer for the motorcycle naysayers: I don‘t wanna hear any comments about how bikes are dangerous and how doctors call them “donor cycles.” If you’re gonna try to convince me not to buy a new bike, all I have to say to you is fuck off. Some of us choose to live life at 110 miles per hour all the time. If you don’t, that’s cool, and none of us are going to try to convince you to live like we do. But please, just do us a favor and get off our Kool Aid and go back to the sidelines where you’re comfortable and let us live our lives in the fucking fast lane.

Below are some photos of the bikes I looked at this weekend.  Sorry for the piss poor quality of my cell phone camera.  Thanks!
