Dream Fight Through the Prediction Machine
I’ve realized something with two upcoming UFC events. UFC Fight Night Live on Sunday, August 1st and UFC 117 on Saturday, August 7th. Both fights already have their own share of drama.
The Fight Night Live event puts Vladimir Matyushenko, a proven MMA and UFC veteran against a lightning quick and versatile Jon “Bones” Jones (did you hear what Jones did to Brandon Vera’s face?). Even though Matyushenko clearly has the age and experience over Jones, it is Jones who is favored to win. Less than a week later, fireworks are sure to fly in the UFC 117 main event with Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen. Sonnen has been talking so much shit about Silva lately, that Orbit gum won’t be able to clean that mouth-off fast enough.
Both of these fights should be explosive, but I have a personal dream fight...don’t you wish MMA had a democracy, where the fans could vote and decide who-fights-who?
My dream wish is Anderson Silva vs. Jon Jones.
I had tossed around the idea of these two warriors fighting each other on a previous Heavy Hands blog (See; The Prediction Machine), but hadn’t really thought about it in depth. The upcoming UFC Live and UFC 117 events re-sparked my interest in the two possibly meeting in the octagon.
Jones is a gifted and talented fighter. His last win earned him knock out of the night honors over UFC veteran Brandon Vera. This will be the second UFC Live event he has headlined in as a main event, which speaks volumes about what Dana White thinks of his abilities. Off the top of my head, I can only think of 2 other UFC fighters that have received more attention. One of them is Anderson Silva.
Most MMA fans understand that Silva needs no explanation. Who else can make their opponents miss by inches like you’re watching a movie? Or move up to another weight class and dominate there? Or showboat in front of a bloodied and battered #1 contender, like Muhammad Ali did in the 60’s? Classy or not, the point is; he can actually do this stuff, which is pretty fuckin’ scary.
So instead of waiting for these two to actually fight, I ran them through the Prediction Machine, which has been pretty accurate so far in predicting the who, when, and how of a match.
The results: Silva by KO, 2nd round
The Machine predicts that Jones will put up a good fight. It says that he will get the first takedown, however it also says that he will be the first one cut open. The Machine shows that there is a small chance that it will go to the 3rd round, and an even smaller chance that it will end in the first.
Alright, no more guessing. I want to see them fight already.
